    Background

Jong-Hwan Lee received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea, in 2000 and 2005, respectively. From 2005 to 2009, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then an Instructor at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. In 2009, Dr. Lee started as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Brain and Cognitive Engineering, Korea University, where he is now a Full Professor. From 2016 to 2017, he was a visiting scientist at National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health.

His longstanding research interests have been in the investigation of hidden information underlying sensory signals and the development of efficient methods for accurate analysis of this information. His recent research has focused on applying machine learning and deep learning (MLDL)-based neural network models to neuronal data, such as structural MRI (sMRI), functional MRI (fMRI), and electroencephalography (EEG). Dr. Lee is also very interested in developing applications of functional neuroimaging modalities such as MLDL-based prediction models and real-time fMRI-based neurofeedback by leveraging MLDL models.
